  • Phase 2 - 22nd January - 15th February 2024 - Closure of Devonshire Street (now completed)
  • Phase 3 - 15th February - 8th March 2024 - Closure of King Street

Kirkstone Pass works

The Safer Roads Team at Westmorland and Furness Council would like to thank local businesses, residents and visitors for their understanding, support and patience during our ongoing efforts to improve the safety of Kirkstone Pass.

The cooperation and support of the local community has been instrumental in facilitating the progress of this project. Your flexibility in adapting to the temporary disruptions are highly valued, and we are grateful for your continued cooperation.

A further full road closure is scheduled to take place from Monday 4 March until Thursday 28 March 2024 to complete civils work.

During this full closure, the road will undergo a complete closure which means that vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists are not permitted to access the area.  We kindly request that you do not attempt to access the work site.  As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure environment, we will be placing barriers on the site to ensure the safety of the public.

We would like to thank the community for their continued support and patience while we improve the highway network. We acknowledge the potential inconveniences these improvements will cause and sincerely apologise for any disruptions.

For more information and to see the next phases, please visit the Safer Roads website.
